AgentPort guide

Connect your coding agent to AgentPort

Connect your coding agent to AgentPort through MCP, install Docker on macOS, Windows, or Linux, and verify setup before your first deployment.

Connect once, verify the local tools, and then keep deploying from the coding agent you already use. This walkthrough never asks you to put an API key in chat or in your repository.

Choose your agent

Paste into a Claude Code project conversation. Approve only the user-level MCP change, then start a new session if needed.

  1. 01

Create your account and protect the key

Join AgentPort, finish beta entry, and create an API key. Keep it on your machine in the private user-level configuration described in the setup guide.

    You

Using Claude Code: Point me to AgentPort registration and the dashboard API-key screen, then show me where to enter the key locally using this agent's persistent user-level setup. Never ask me to paste it into chat, print it, or write it into this repository.

    See agent reply

    Illustrative example

Claude Code response: Go to /auth?tab=register, finish beta entry, then open Dashboard → API keys and create a key. The dashboard setup tab shows your agent's command or config file. Enter the key locally, keep that file private, and never put it in chat or the repository.

  2. 02

Install and start Docker where the agent runs

Docker must be on the machine or remote workspace that runs the agent. A laptop installation does not give a remote SaaS agent access.

Docker Desktop uses the WSL 2 backend for Linux containers.

    1. Open a normal PowerShell window and check the installed WSL version first. Docker currently requires WSL 2.1.5 or later.

      wsl --version
    2. Only if WSL is absent, close PowerShell, reopen it with Run as administrator, install WSL, and restart Windows when prompted.

      wsl --install
    3. If WSL exists but is too old, use that administrator PowerShell window to update it. Restart only if Windows prompts you.

      wsl --update
    4. Download Docker Desktop, choose the recommended per-user installation, keep WSL 2 selected, then open Docker Desktop from Start and accept the subscription terms. Wait until the engine is running.

    You

Using Claude Code: Check the Docker installation where this coding agent executes. Check the existing WSL version before choosing install or update, then verify the recommended per-user Docker Desktop installation and running engine.

    See agent reply

    Illustrative example

Claude Code response: Windows was selected. WSL met the current version requirement, per-user Docker Desktop was installed with the WSL 2 backend, the terms were accepted, and the engine responds.

  3. 03

    Connect AgentPort MCP

Use AgentPort's machine guide to add the server without replacing other MCP configuration. Reload the client if needed.

    You

Using Claude Code: Use https://agentport.cloud/ai-install-guide.md to add AgentPort to my existing user-level MCP configuration while preserving every other server and setting. Use a placeholder and show me where to enter the key locally so it survives restarts. Never read or print my key. Tell me when to reload. Do not deploy anything.

    See agent reply

    Illustrative example

Claude Code response: The AgentPort server entry was added beside the existing MCP servers with a key placeholder. Replace that placeholder locally in the saved user configuration, then reload the client. No key was read and no deployment was started.

  4. 04

    Verify tools, balance, and Docker

After reloading, verify MCP tools and the wallet, then check Docker. Stop before image or deployment work.

    You

Using Claude Code: Verify AgentPort MCP tools, read my billing balance, and check Docker here. Do not request an image target, build, or deploy. If a check fails, give me the next exact recovery step.

    See agent reply

    Illustrative example

    • billing:statusAvailable deployment budget checked

Claude Code response: AgentPort tools are available, the wallet check succeeded, and Docker responded locally. No image target or deployment was created.

The machine-readable setup guide remains the authoritative MCP configuration reference. Once all three checks pass, continue with Deploy a React app with an API.
